Art Vignettes

Ever since I was a child reading the magazines in my grandparents’ home, I’ve particularly enjoyed the feature segments. Sometimes the magazines featured a destination, other times, a celebrity. Occasionally, they would feature an artist. I often wondered what it was like to meet these artists and the thoughts that went through their mind when creating. This year, combining my love of travel, photography and art, I embarked on a journey to meet artists based in Southeast Asia and capture their passion and creative processes.

It was a very exciting and nerve wrecking experience for me, meeting a stranger and having only a few hours to photograph them in their most intimate moments/rituals/spaces. But I’m glad I’ve been able to come out of these visits being able to call these amazing people my friends. They were not obligated to allow me access into their lives but still, I was welcomed with open arms and the utmost hospitality and kindness. Speaking to these artists have widen my perspective greatly, both in art and in life. Although I cannot show the amount of care and thought that is put into the practice of these artists, I hope that I would provide at least a glimpse into the person behind the artist. A vignette if you would.
